Una’s research is informed by contemporary views of musical improvisation as an accessible activity though which people of all ages and abilities can develop their creativity in collaboration with others.

Her PhD investigated ways of facilitating improvisation in groups with preschool children. Some activities from this will be published in General Music: Dimensions of Practice edited by Gault and Abril and out with OUP later in 2022.

Una was part of an editorial team with Dr Guro Gravem Johansen, Dr Kari Holdus and Dr Christina Larsson for an international anthology: "Expanding the Space for Improvisation Pedagogy", which was published by Routledge in 2019.
